Alice Pattullo

An artist who we spotted in Ulverston last November seems to be attracting a lot of attention recently. We fell in love with the distinctive style of Alice Pattullo who's screen prints in beautiful vintage colours are to be seen all over just now. Take a look at her work at: http://www.alicepattullo.com and see for yourself.
The shop was the very lovely The Shop Floor Project. She had done some exclusive screenprint editions on unusual country pursuits;

The Shop Floor Project can be seen here;  http://www.theshopfloorproject.com
We bought a print of a seabird in a hat from her Superstitions portfolio;

Returning from Cornwall

We've just returned from another wonderful break in Cornwall. We visited our favourite areas of old; Roseudgeon, Church cove, Kynance cove and the Helford Passage. We both did a bit of drawing, Andrew draws only ocasionally but has the ability from drawing a lot as a child.

Andrew's drawing of Bessies cove

I don't draw with the intention of making a finished pencil sketch as a final piece, my drawings are reference for paintings. I generally look out for seascapes, simple sailboats, rolling hills and the overgrown hedges between. I enjoy looking for unusual, quirky or old things that take my eye in junk shops and on car boot sales and often incorporate them in my paintings. We have amassed an extensive collection of objects over the years. Andrew often uses some of my finds in his still life photographs and we enjoy seeing how differently we represent these finds. Here are a few pages from my sketchbook showing flower studies and a landscape.

Exhibiting Photography

We visited the Snug Gallery in Hebden Bridge last week to see some of my photographs in a group show.
The work was prominently displayed and we liked the whole ethos of the shop/gallery. It is on the site of hannah Nunn's lighting gallery 'Radiance'.

Hebden Bridge is one of our favourite towns to visit. There are a lot of interesting shops and galleries, -well worth a day trip out, and if you want a recommendation for the best place for coffee; Organic House at 2, Market Street is superb!

The photography shown here is all hand printed in a traditional darkroom and anyone looking for a little more information should visit my main website; www.andrewsanderson.com

Tony george

Last week we visited Tony George (Debbie's brother) who lives in Norfolk. He is a maker/designer, but that title really doesn't do him justice. He has made interesting sculptures which he has all over his house, a house which he designed and built almost single handed. He has a natural sense of design and can apply himself to any task. He is currently refurbishing a shop in Norwich with the intention of opening a gallery.
